Our story

Richard Sherry, the founder of Psychological Systems has worked for more than fifteen years treating aspects of psychological trauma. Within his work he has specialized in assessing and treating vulnerabilities in both individual and organizational systems and their interactions. His research focuses on the pervasive effects of stress and the impact this has across every aspect of neurobiological processing including social functioning.

For the past fifteen years Richard Sherry has worked with individuals, families, groups, departments, and organizations to effect change. His further research into clinical neuro-psychology and neuroscience lead him to understand these same processes of function and dysfunction are scalar, occurring at all levels, from the neural peptides which control brain function up to the scale of entire social systems. This exploration and interest in linking ways to think about these different scales of processes led to the development of the ICDS system (Richard Sherry copyright © 2011) and advancing the real goal of actually healing individuals and the social processes they inter-relate with. Integrated Systems Healing and Richard’s concept of Integrated Healing (Richard Sherry copyright © 2011) is a process of linking the spectrum of illness and health dimensionally.

Richard’s passion is working with individuals, groups, or organizations to deliver high levels of performance and creativity. However, the depth of his training and expertise has helped Richard develop some groundbreaking clinical innovations in oftentimes extremely complex cases. Richard is considered by his colleagues within the psychiatric and psychological world as one of the safest set of hands within the mental health field. The care and expertise he brings to every person he works with is felt, and this quality is a hallmark for all that come into contact with him and know his work. He frequently has clients flying in from around the globe seeking treatment.

The company Richard founded, Psychological Systems Ltd., is based on the concept of the importance of interconnected health and support. Richard has specialized in being able to understand the needs and treatment demands of the social-emotional environments that is integral to being a fully-functioning human being. This is one aspect that is often underemphasized and is another way Richard is able to achieve excellent results. The meaning and quality of connected relationships is another aspect Richard has been working on clinically, to improve not just symptomatic improvement, but to significantly improve quality of life and depth of personal development.

Innovator in Psychometric testing and Diagnostic Tools

The need to have reliable, expert benchmarking, and assessment has been one of the most critical issues within psychological health. Psychological Systems Ltd., has been working for nearly 10 years to tackle this problem. With possibly one of the best-integrated psychological and developmental psychometric test that is available in the world the STAT test (Richard Sherry copyright © 2011) provides a valid and highly reliable psychometric personality test. We at Psychological Systems Ltd., are working to innovate further improvements to integrating and revolutionizing the standards of psychometric assessment to improve on health, performance, and well-being.

Military and Police Psychology

In addition to some of these previous details, Richard has worked in posts as the psychologist with the fire service, and the National Service for Police Psychiatry, where he served as the Co-ordinator for the National Service. He has been the Lead treating Clinical Psychologist for Military inpatient treatment for seven years. His interest in extreme environments and high performance stems from some of the experiences that have made him one of the foremost treating clinical psychologists working in London. These clinical treatment demands have informed his wider work both in humanitarian medicine, disaster medicine and psychology as well as with his interest in organizations and extreme environments. He is currently finishing further specialty training with a Diploma in Ethics and Philosophy of Medicine (DPMSA), in which he specialsed in developing new frameworks for improving disaster ethics. Richard is now working to complete his Fellowship in Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) and the Diploma in Conflict and Catastrophe Medicine (DCCM). He is very interested in the cross learning and development that can be gained in the most difficult environments and how this learning can positively help our development in all aspects of psychology to improve quality and meaning within our lives.

Richard has a particular interest in high performance and excellence in leadership, especially in challenging or extreme environments. Elite Performance and Optimization

Richard’s multifaceted training and expertise in experiential learning has helped him innovate better ways to move from any level (including high levels) of dysfunction (for both individuals and organizations) to work to achieve satisfying outcomes. Richard has been working with international experts within the field of superhuman performance to bring the expertise from the psychological dimension to best harness one’s vision and help create the matching capacities to ensure its successful delivery.

Multiple areas of advanced training:

Richard is a Clinical Psychologist and a Counselling Psychologist (HCPC registered). He is also a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist (BPC and UKCP registered). Among other degrees and areas of specialty, he holds an MA in Organizational Consultancy from the Tavistock; A certificate in Traumatology from the European Society for Traumatic Studies; he is a founding member of the Society for NeuroPsychoanalysis, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, and a Fellow for the Conflict and Disaster section of the Society of Apothecaries. Further areas of specialist training include; EMDR Consultant, and newer body psychotherapy as a registered practitioner for Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT), and he is working toward completing full membership in CBT with the BABCP and further specialty training in clinical neuropsychology, a Fellowship with the Academy of Wilderness Medicine, and a Diploma in Conflict and Catastrophe Medicine.

Humanitarian Aid and Intervention

Richard is very interesting in developing solutions across the spectrum for individuals, for couples and families, for organizations, as well as for societies. This work includes the interconnected study and first-hand work within each of these environments. Richard’s development of new interventions for Integrated Systemic Healing (Richard Sherry copyright © 2011) has been one path to integrate much of the best thinking within the field of clinical psychology, disaster medicine, social systems theory, social neuro science and psychology, as well as many other areas to help develop the healthiest and most compassionate sustainable systems human beings can experience.

Psychometrics

Psychometrics is a discipline derived from clinical psychology. These techniques to measure aspects of human functioning include examining personality traits, levels and types of clinical behaviour or symptoms, attitudes, skills, abilities and knowledge required to really understand each different individual.

The primary focus of psychometrics is in constructing and innovating new measurement instruments: tests, questionnaires, personality assessments and interviews. It is the hope of the creator and innovator of the STAT psychometric test to profoundly create an integrated system that is capable of building sustainable and compassionate emotional development for individuals as well as the larger social structures each is engaged within.

Psychometric assessment (or Psychometrics) is used for a number of following reasons:

  • Individual assessments for identifying scores or ranges of functioning. Usually, this is carried out to gain insight into better understanding what the range of issues might include or the severity or performance of scores.
  • Improvement and development—Using the data derived from the scores helps inform the assessment and advice to create a treatment plan or a framework to develop and increase performance goals and measurable milestones.
  • Management and career development programs (e.g. career preference, job selection processes in Human Relations (HR), recommendations for health related procedures, educational recommendations)—having a flexible approach to the unique needs encountered combined with clearer defined benchmarking to know strengths and areas of weaknesses will allow both the individual and the organisation to have reliable evidence-based data to look at improving the person environment fit as well as ensuring the team dynamics can create genuine support for a happier and more effective team and organization.
  • Private coaching and mentoring—The development of the tests do have the support of a specialist team that for additional costs can be used to help look at developing programmes to maximize the assessment to match these with superb insights to facilitate high performance development and leadership within individuals and the social structures he or she is responsible for transforming.

Psychometric tests are a clear way to evidence an individual’s ability within a context of how their behaviour, personality, work in conjunction with their experience, and their neurobiology in unique ways. For example, choosing the right individual from a large pool of applicants to get the correct person to connect with the team and the organizational ethos is extremely complicated and nuanced.
